Sports Injury Management

Most sports injuries are not mysterious. They have a cause, a structure, and a clear path to resolution – if they are managed properly from the start.

Injuries we treat

  • A sudden sprint, an awkward landing, a moment of overreach – and the muscle fibres pay the price. We grade the injury accurately, apply precision manual therapy to the damaged tissue, and build a structured return-to-sport programme that ensures the muscle is genuinely ready before you load it again.

  • Tendons do not respond well to rest alone – they need the right kind of load to stimulate healing. We combine precise manual therapy to address the overloaded structures contributing to tendon stress with a carefully progressed loading programme that rebuilds the tendon's capacity from the ground up.

  • Whether it is an ankle rolled on a padel court or a knee twisted in a tackle, ligament injuries need more than ice and compression to resolve properly. We restore joint range of motion, strengthen the surrounding muscles, and retrain proprioception – the body's ability to sense joint position – which is the most commonly neglected part of ligament rehabilitation.

  • Bone stress injuries are almost always a load management problem – the training demand has outpaced the bone's ability to adapt. We identify the contributing factors (training load, foot mechanics, hip weakness), manage the acute phase, and build a return-to-training plan that addresses the cause rather than just the symptom.

  • Many meniscus and cartilage injuries – particularly in patients over 35 – respond extremely well to conservative physiotherapy management without surgery. We assess the nature and severity of the injury thoroughly, give you an honest recommendation, and manage the rehabilitation whether the path is conservative or post-surgical.

  • The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, which makes it the most vulnerable to overuse – particularly in swimmers, padel players, and gym athletes. We assess not just the shoulder itself but the thoracic spine and scapular control that underpin it, and rebuild the full system rather than just treating where it hurts.

  • When something goes seriously wrong – a heavy fall, a collision, a joint that does not feel right – the priority is accurate assessment and a clear decision about what comes next. We stabilise, assess, and refer where surgical input is needed, with direct connections to our network of orthopaedic specialists.

At Akeso, our approach to sports injury begins with a question most clinics skip: why did this happen? Understanding the loading pattern, the biomechanical factors, and the training context behind an injury is what separates a recovery that lasts from one that cycles back every few months.

We do not have a script. We problem-solve – with you, not on you.

Come in as soon as possible. Early physiotherapy – within 48–72 hours of injury – significantly improves outcomes. You do not need a doctor's referral.

How we treat it

Accurate Diagnosis

The assessment is the most important part of the process. We assess not just the injured structure but the whole chain – what is compensating, what has switched off, and what drove the overload in the first place.

Targeted Manual Therapy

Our physiotherapists locate the exact structures involved and release them with anatomical precision. Precise, clinical, and significantly more effective than a broad sweep.

Structured rehabilitation

Three phases: get out of pain, rebuild capacity, return to sport. Each progressed on objective criteria, not guesswork. We do not discharge patients when they are pain-free. We continue working with them to maintain their lifestyle.

Load management

We tell you what to keep doing, what to modify, and what to stop. Complete rest is rarely the right answer.
