FAQs

What services do you offer?

1

We offer physiotherapy for all types of musculoskeletal issues, ranging from back pain caused by lifestyle, to sports injuries and post-surgery rehabilitation

How do I get started?

2

Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

What type of physiotherapy treatment do you provide?

3

Akeso provides specialised Musculo-Skeletal Physiotherapy from Australia. "Musculo" means muscles and "Skeletal" means bones and joints, so we treat problems from head to toe. Our founder was educated and trained in Australia, bringing that expert knowledge directly to Indonesia.

We focus on a hands-on approach and intentionally avoid using machines. Instead, we use skilled human touch - like myofascial release, joint mobilisation, and assisted stretching - combined with Clinical Pilates. This helps retrain your movement patterns to ensure your recovery lasts for the long term.

What makes you different?

4

We combine a thoughtful, human-centered approach with clear communication and reliable results. It’s not just what we do - it’s how we do it that sets us apart.

The main difference at Akeso is our expert training and premium approach. Our physios are "First Contact" practitioners, meaning they have the clinical expertise to assess, diagnose and manage your injury independently from doctors.

Everything we do happens in a premium, 5-star setting. We provide an exclusive, one-on-one experience with world-class hospitality, so you can recover in total comfort and privacy.

What can I expect from an Akeso session?

5

For new patients, the first session starts with a consultation with our Clinic Director. They will listen to your problems, and check your body for injuries. During the session, you will define goals that you want to work on, and the Clinic Director will create a Treatment Plan. The session finishes with some light treatment and exercises.

For existing patients, a typical session consists of Manual Therapy and Movement with your physiotherapist. The split between these two components varies depending on which stage of your treatment journey you are in.

What is Manual Therapy?

6

Manual therapy is a specialised "hands-on" approach used by our physiotherapists to treat joint structures and soft tissues. Unlike traditional exercise-based therapy alone, manual therapy involves skilled hand movements intended to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, induce relaxation, and - most importantly - reduce pain.

At Akeso, our proprietary method uses a blend of Australian-based techniques such as massage, myofascial release, joint mobilisations and assisted stretching.

Do I need to see a doctor before coming to Akeso?

7

In most cases, no. Our physiotherapists are trained as First Contact Practitioners, meaning they are qualified to independently assess, diagnose, and treat you without a doctor’s referral.

You can come directly to Akeso, though some patients might need to see a doctor first for insurance purposes. If you need a referral for your insurance, we can assist you through our Akeso GP.

How can I contact you?

8

You can reach us anytime via our contact page or Whatsapp. We aim to respond quickly - usually within 10 minutes.

Can physiotherapy fix lower back pain?

9

Yes, in most cases physiotherapy is the most effective first-line treatment for lower back pain. At Akeso, we start with a detailed assessment to identify the true source of your pain, which is often not where you feel it. Treatment typically combines manual therapy to release tight muscles and joints, followed by corrective exercises to retrain your movement patterns so the pain doesn't return. Most patients with mechanical back pain see significant improvement within 3–6 sessions.

Can physio help with a herniated or slipped disc?

10

Yes. A herniated disc responds well to physiotherapy in the majority of cases and surgery is rarely necessary. Our approach focuses on reducing nerve irritation through careful joint mobilisation and positioning, releasing the surrounding muscle tension that worsens pressure on the disc, and building the core strength needed to protect the spine long-term. We work closely with orthopaedic specialists at partner hospitals when imaging or further investigation is needed.

Does Akeso treat sciatica?

11

Yes. Sciatica - the shooting pain, numbness, or tingling that runs from the lower back down the leg - is one of the most common conditions we treat. The key is correctly identifying whether it originates from the lumbar spine, the piriformis muscle, or another structure. Our Clinic Directors are experienced in differentiating these causes and tailoring treatment accordingly. Many patients come to us after months of unresolved pain and find significant relief within a few weeks.

My back pain is from sitting at a desk all day. Can physio help with that?

12

This is one of the most common reasons people come to Akeso. Prolonged sitting creates specific patterns of muscle tightness and weakness that gradually build into pain. We treat the immediate tension and then, (importantly) teach you the movement corrections and simple exercises to prevent it from coming back. We can also advise on workstation setup. You don't need to be injured to benefit; many of our patients come in for regular tune-up sessions to stay ahead of the problem.

What is scoliosis and can physio help manage it?

13

Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. Physiotherapy cannot reverse the curve, but it plays an important role in managing pain, improving posture, and slowing progression — particularly in adolescents and active adults. At Akeso, we use a combination of targeted manual therapy and clinical Pilates to strengthen the muscles around the spine and improve overall function. We'll give you an honest assessment of what physio can achieve for your specific case.
