Medical Massage

Most massages find tension by feel and work it until it softens. At Akeso, our therapists know not just that a muscle is tight – they know which part of it, why it is loaded, and exactly how to release it. That precision is the product of years of deliberate training in anatomy and manual technique, and it is what makes the difference between feeling better for two days and actually changing something.

Our sports and medical massage services are delivered by licensed physiotherapists – not massage therapists. Every session begins with an assessment of your current state, and the hands-on work that follows is targeted, clinical, and specific to what your body needs that day.

Our medical massage services

Sports Recovery Massage

For athletes and active individuals who train regularly and want to recover properly. We work through the structures that accumulate load between sessions – overworked primary movers, restricted joints, compensatory tension – before they build into tightness, restriction, or injury. Not a general sweep. A targeted, sequenced release based on what your body is actually doing.

Deep Tissue & Myofascial Release

For patients with chronic muscle tension, fascial restrictions, or persistent tightness that lighter work has not resolved. Deep tissue work at Akeso is applied with anatomical precision – finding the specific layer, depth, and angle that releases a structure completely, rather than broadly pressing into a muscle belly and hoping for the best. The results are consistently more effective and longer-lasting than conventional deep tissue massage.

Injury Rehab Massage

Manual therapy is an integral part of how we treat every musculoskeletal injury at Akeso – and for patients in active rehabilitation, dedicated soft tissue sessions accelerate recovery between treatment appointments. We work on the injured structure, the compensating structures around it, and the movement patterns that the injury has disrupted, keeping the tissue in the best possible condition to heal and adapt.

Pre- & Post-event Massage

Whether you are preparing for a race, a tournament, or a big training block – or recovering from one – a targeted session before or after the event makes a measurable difference. Pre-event work primes the muscles and joints for performance without over-releasing. Post-event work clears the metabolic waste and micro-damage that accumulates under competition load, accelerating recovery and reducing the soreness window.

Corporate & Desk Worker Sessions

Jakarta's work culture – long hours, back-to-back meetings, commutes that bookend a day already spent sitting – creates a predictable pattern of upper trap overload, thoracic stiffness, and hip flexor tightness. A regular session at Akeso addresses this accumulation before it becomes pain, keeps you moving well through a demanding week, and delivers the kind of targeted relief that no chair adjustment or standing desk ever will.

What makes Akeso’s massage different

Regardless of service or condition, every session at Akeso is built on the same foundation:

1. Clinical assessment first

Every session starts with a brief assessment – not just "where does it hurt?" but how you are moving, what has loaded up since your last visit, and what your body needs today. The hands-on work follows the assessment, not a fixed routine.

2. Physiotherapist delivered

Our therapists hold university degrees in physiotherapy and complete an additional twelve-month internal training programme at Akeso. They bring clinical reasoning – an understanding of anatomy, biomechanics, and injury – to every session. That is categorically different from a trained massage therapist, however skilled.

3. Anatomical precision

The quality of manual therapy is determined by the therapist's understanding of what lies under their hands. Our therapists know the origin and insertion of every muscle they work, the nerve that runs through it, and the joint it crosses. They can locate a structure the size of a coin and release it completely. Patients who have had massage elsewhere consistently describe the difference as significant.

4. Targeted, not templated

No two sessions at Akeso are identical – because no two visits are the same. What your body needs after a padel tournament is different from what it needs in the middle of a heavy training week, which is different again from what it needs after a long-haul flight. We adapt every time.
